Henderson
Sets All-Time Runs Record
Baseball fans across America celebrated Henderson's landmark feat by collectively yawning, smiling politely, and giving a two-finger, "library clap" round of applause. "I though Rickey Henderson retired three years ago," said fan Jacob Trundle while purchasing a t-shirt depicting an American flag. "Hmmm," said fan Steve Reddish while watching MSNBC. "That's fantastic that he broke whatever record he broke. Please pass the chips." "Does he still play for the Yankees?" asked fan Jerry Stewart. When told that Henderson does not, Stewart replied, "Then why would I care?" Despite the fans' lukewarm reaction, MLB commissioner/Wal-Mart greeter Bud Selig recognized the significance of Henderson's achievement. "This is a great moment for baseball," said Selig. "Richie Henderson has accomplished something that no one else has ever done. And that's good. I guess." When reminded that Henderson's first name is "Rickey" and not "Richie", Selig replied, "Yeah, but he doesn't play for the Yankees, so who cares?" Henderson was busy bathing in his own Rickey-ness and was unavailable for further comment. |
